Red Clay, Black Mason Stain
Half Marathon is a piece from a series of Greek-inspired vessels that explore womens stories through the black figure pottery tradition. In ancient Greece, black figure pottery typically depicted gods, kings, and mortals. The vessels were used during the Symposiums, all-male philosophy meetings and drinking parties. I want to turn that history on its head and instead draw depictions of modern-day womens stories. I've started with a story from my own life: I am currently training for the half marathon with my friend Cassandra. This pot depicts one of our training runs, as we run through the forested Golden Gate Park.
